Excavating Next to the Metropolitan Railway
The sketch below shows a sectioned pad with thick rubber pads between thick top and bottom steel plates, bolted together through an anti-vibration sleeve. There is a fail-safe steel block (black) in case the rubber should fail. These pads were placed all over the site and between the vertical diaphragm walls and the steel pillars. Thus the steel structure is isolated from the vibrations in the surrounding soil in all directions.
