The Goad map showing the commercial and industrial nature of Paddington Basin at the end of the 19 century. The basin was surrounded by wharfiingers' yards, dealing on the south side with hay, straw, salt, lime, cement, timber, and firewood, and on the north with household refuse and cinder sifting. Mud berths off the basin held boats for unloading and repair.
