The statue was clearly a fashionable side show. It was built by public subscrip­tion and here are the subscribers viewing the colossal result of their efforts. The sculptor, posing in the centre, is the very picture of a romantic artist. The workshop assistant too is putting on a show. His wild swing and the artist's elaborate pose, seem far from normal workshop life. If he had hit a valuable statue like that he would have been sacked on the spot.
